Vidor ISD reports 935 special-education placements; district plans earlier interventions and notes one diagnostician vacancy

At the June 23 board meeting, Vidor Independent School District staff reported the district served a total of 935 students in special-education placements during the 2024–25 school year and said the district will focus on strengthening early interventions to reduce unnecessary referrals.
"We served a total of 935 students in special education placements this year," Miss Silver said, summarizing the annual report and noting the fall accountability snapshot counted 783 students and the year-end total was 812. She told trustees the district tested about 117 students and that the full testing and placement details are available in the packet.
Trustees and staff discussed workforce capacity. When asked whether diagnostician positions are open, Miss Silver confirmed one diagnostician recently resigned and the district is currently short one diagnostician. She and other staff emphasized the role of campus teachers and early interventions: staff will work with campuses to develop strong interventions so students receive supports before referral to special education.
Board members praised staff work on individualized education programs and the day-to-day efforts of teachers who implement supports. Miss Silver pointed board members to a breakdown of identifying conditions in the board packet (page 3) and offered to provide additional information on request.
