Norfolk City Council on Aug. 12 adopted ordinances authorizing sale and conveyance of multiple city-owned parcels to successful bidders through the city's online real-estate auction and authorized related modifications to protective and restrictive covenants.
The council approved ordinances conveying parcels to Richardson Homes Inc. (3575 Mississippi Avenue), Dependable Homes Inc. (850 Lexington Street), Robert Etheridge Residential LLC (400 Middlesex Street), and Globally Operational Hauling and Moving Services LLC (3430 Westminster Avenue). For each item the council dispensed with the charter requirement for reading ordinances twice and adopted the ordinances with the effective date.
Each sale was presented as following the terms and conditions of the city's online real-estate auction and included authorization for the city to modify, revise or release protective and restrictive covenants as necessary to complete conveyances. Council recorded unanimous "Aye" votes on those items during the public hearing sequence; no extended public debate or opposition was recorded on the council floor for these conveyances.
The ordinances transfer property interests to the named buyers and authorize the city manager and relevant staff to complete transactional steps, including modifications to covenants and any ministerial conveyance documents required by the sales process.
