The Glen Rock Board of Education opened its organization meeting by swearing in newly elected members and selecting leadership for the coming year, then approved a package of reorganization resolutions.
Doctor Damali Robinson was nominated for president and elected by roll call after the oath of office for newly elected trustees. "I would like to nominate doctor Damali Robinson for president," Miss Rundell said; the roll call recorded unanimous "yes" votes and the board declared Robinson duly elected. Robinson then conducted the meeting and asked for a nomination for vice president; Daniel Corey nominated Elizabeth Calvez and she was elected by roll call.
The board moved to consider a bundled set of resolutions (R5 through R37) to affirm existing contracts and appoint officers and delegates as part of the annual reorganization. "Can I have a motion to discuss R5 through R37? Miss Parlamas, seconded by Miss Stevenson," the president said. The motion passed by roll call; two members recorded recusals or exceptions on individual items during the roll call: Elizabeth Calvez announced she would abstain on R9 because of her affiliation with Bank of America, and Boas Cohen announced an exception on R36 because he was not present for the prior contract discussion. The board separately moved to add Karen Stevenson to R19; the motion by Miss Rundell, seconded by Miss Calvez, passed and the resolution lists Stevenson as the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) legislative delegate for the 2025 calendar year.
Later in the meeting the board adopted a statement of ethics by formal vote. The package of reorganization actions and the ethics statement were recorded by roll call and carried.
Why this matters: Organization meetings set the district's elected leadership and authorize administrative and contractual routines the district will use during the year. The appointment of an NJSBA delegate designates who will represent the district in the statewide organization that offers governance training and advocacy.
What the votes show: The meeting minutes and roll-call votes show unanimous support for the board officers and for the omnibus reorganization packet after recorded abstentions on specific items tied to personal conflicts of interest. The board also recorded the required oath of office for new members and then continued regular business.
The board recessed to closed session later in the evening; no final action was taken in closed session and the board announced it would reconvene to adjourn.
