Board approves new high-school assistant principal position and creates K–5 supervisor role

The Glen Rock Public School District Board of Education approved revised job descriptions and a staffing reorganization that creates a permanent high-school assistant principal position and a new K–5 elementary supervisor of curriculum, the board said during its meeting.

District staff presented a chart showing current supervisory assignments and how those responsibilities will shift for the coming school year; the presenter described the changes as a response to staffing needs and feedback from the community. Under the plan, a new high-school assistant principal position will carry 6–12 supervision for social studies and business; the existing K–12 supervisor of social studies and business will be abolished and its duties absorbed by the new assistant-principal role. Several other supervisory assignments will change from K–12 to 6–12 oversight in areas such as science, math and English to align middle- and high‑school supervision.

The district also will create a K–5 elementary supervisor of curriculum who will oversee media specialists and intervention specialists and place emphasis on gifted-and-talented services for K–8 as part of the reorganization. Human-resources materials presented to the board noted the district plans to add a 10‑month, 10‑day position; staff said the changes are intended to provide more consistent supervision for larger departments, including world language.

Board member questions and comments focused on clarity and community feedback. One board member thanked staff for the visual chart showing current and proposed assignments and another said the elementary supervisor position had been requested previously by the community and that she supported the change.

The motion to discuss agenda items G1 through G16 was offered by Dan Kory and seconded by Ed Hayward. The board then voted on the consent/discussion block during a roll call; the meeting record shows the motion passed on roll call with the members present voting in favor.

Staff said the reassignments are intended to take effect Sept. 1 and that the district will add the new assistant-principal position through a side‑bar agreement with the Glen Rock administrators’ association (GRAA) as part of the personnel adjustments. The board did not discuss salary figures or post job‑advertising details at the public meeting; staff indicated some assignments were created to provide consistent supervision of larger departments and to centralize elementary curriculum oversight.
