The San Juan Economic Development Corporation on Monday demonstrated a new interactive map on its website that displays subdivisions with preliminary approval or under construction, available property listings and planned roadway widenings. The demonstration, given during the EDC meeting, showed map features that allow users to click on parcels to download listing information and to contact the city’s real estate agent through an online form. EDC staff said the site will record basic usage metrics — for example, how many times map areas are viewed — and that the office plans to build analytics that will indicate which parcels receive the most interest. Staff said notifications from the web form will be routed to the city’s designated real estate agent and the EDC contact listed on the site. EDC staff described the new tab as a tool for investors and businesses to “see where growth is happening” in the city and to identify available buildings or land. During the presentation, commissioners asked whether the listings are limited to properties the EDC controls; staff replied the map shows properties currently listed in the city’s inventory and that the EDC is publicizing the tool to investors. Commissioners discussed publicity for the page and asked staff to provide details on how the analytics will be presented to the board. Staff said a business analyst role is being formed and that more tracking options will be available soon. No formal action was taken; the item was a presentation and discussion.
