Council members announced a series of back-to-school supply distributions and community bashes for students across multiple council districts during the Metro Nashville and Davidson County Council meeting on July 15.
Several events are aimed at distributing school supplies and connecting families with resources before the new school year. Council member Eslick said the District 11 giveaway will be Saturday, July 26, at Temple Baptist, and that organizers “give away backpacks, school supplies, and other things to help the kids get ready for the upcoming school year.”
Other announced events include: - District 13 office hours and a drop-in event: Council member Bradford will hold monthly office hours this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Dunkin’ Donuts on Bridal Parkway. - District 15: Council member Gregg said he will hold office hours Saturday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the new Tim Hortons on Lebanon Pike, and noted a cluster back-to-school bash on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. - District 25: A Hillsborough cluster back-to-school bash is scheduled for July 24 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Hillsborough High School; an Overton cluster event will be July 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Nashville Zoo. - District 2: Multiple cluster events were announced by Council member Timbs: Whites Creek Cluster on July 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Whites Creek High School; Maplewood Cluster on Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Maplewood High School; Pearl-Cohn Cluster on Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon at Hatley Park. - District 7: Council member Benedict encouraged residents to attend the Stratford High School event on Saturday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to noon, calling it a key local high school event.
Organizers emphasized that these events provide free school supplies, backpacks and family supports; at least one council member specified that children must be present to receive supplies. Several council members also promoted additional community events connected to back-to-school timing, including cluster festivals and resource fairs.
The announcements were made during the council’s general announcements period; no formal council action or vote was taken on any of the events. Attendees and caregivers were directed to the listed locations and times, and some council members supplied contact emails for event organizers for follow-up questions.
