Council okays heavy-equipment rental for Mount Rose stormwater project

The Lebanon City Council on July 14 approved an ordinance to rent a large excavator to unload and set box culvert sections for the Mount Rose stormwater improvement project. Staff said the machine is needed to offload about 60 semi loads of large box culvert sections. Nut graf: Public works staff explained the city expects roughly 120 culvert pieces to be delivered (two sections per semi load), each section weighing just under 17,000 pounds; the rental machine is a roughly 55,000-pound excavator capable of lifting the sections from the trucks and setting them in the ditch. Public works staff member Mike said the culvert sections will be manufactured and staged for delivery this summer and that the city's older excavator lacks the lifting capacity. "That's why it doesn't pick it up anymore," he said, referencing the older machine. Council approved the rental on two readings.
