At the July 15 board meeting, the Silver Creek School Corporation approved its consent agenda, which included personnel appointments for athletics. The board then introduced the two coaches the district had authorized: Shane Roberts as head baseball coach and Jesse Whitlock as head softball coach.
Mister Hoffman, the district athletic director, introduced Shane Roberts and Jesse Whitlock and thanked the hiring committee and board. Roberts, who served as the interim baseball coach last season, told the board he plans to maintain the program’s high standards and said, "My number 1 goal is to win a 4 A sectional." Jesse Whitlock, introduced as a long-time coaching presence at Silver Creek and a graduate of the district, said he looks forward to developing student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom.
The hires were part of the consent agenda the board approved by motion; the consent agenda vote was recorded as carrying 5–0. The board then congratulated both new coaches and their families.
Earlier in the meeting the board recognized the high-school band. Doctor Gregan, identified in the packet as the band director, told the board the program earned the Indiana All Music Award for program-wide excellence; he said the band’s marching band, concert bands, both jazz bands and several solos and ensembles received gold ratings and that the award recognizes total program excellence across the school year. "It's a tremendous honor," Gregan said, noting it was the third time in the school's history the program had received the distinction.
Board members present for the approvals and recognition included Mister Basham, Miss McDaniel, Mister Groen, Miss Franklin and the fifth member who registered present at roll call. The district thanked the coaches and band members and invited them forward for photos.
