District communications staff plans ADA fixes, ParentSquare rules and better athletics schedules

Kelsey Knight, district digital communications staff, told the Northridge School District Board of Education on July 14 that the district has completed one year using ParentSquare and will develop posting guidelines for staff to protect boundaries and improve clarity. Knight said the district will keep SportsReach for team management and continue work to migrate logistics where feasible. Knight flagged ADA compliance for the district website as a priority ahead of the 2027 deadline, and said the district will avoid uploading PDFs for handbooks so families can translate content into preferred languages. "Parents love seeing pictures of their kids online. They want to see what their kids are doing in school," Knight said, and added that the communications team is cautious about student photos and checks consent before posting. Board members and staff also discussed athletics schedules and the difficulty community members have finding game times on the website and apps. The group discussed several ideas: better website links to live schedules, making the district Google Calendar public and filterable, and producing printed refrigerator magnets or sport-specific schedules with local sponsor support. Knight said she will continue work on ADA fixes, communication and crisis templates, and a community-accessible events strategy.
