Two $1,000 scholarships awarded from Black History Stakeholders Committee

The committee awarded two $1,000 scholarships, open to graduates of Willow Spring High School or Fuquay Varina High School who planned to attend a historically Black college or university. After reviewing essays and applications, the committee selected Connor Everett and Janavia Royal. According to the presentation, Everett plans to study business and play football at Central; Royal plans to study information technology at North Carolina A&T.
The mayor and board offered congratulations and invited the recipients to be photographed with the board. The awards were ceremonial; no board action or town funds were reported as part of the scholarships at the meeting.
