Fuquay Varina police recognize four officers for advanced training certificates

The town recognized four officers for completing intermediate, advanced and specialized law-enforcement certificate programs including criminal investigations and community policing courses.
Four members of the Fuquay Varina Police Department were publicly recognized at the July 14 Board of Commissioners meeting for completing state and academy certificate programs that the chief said strengthen departmental skills and community policing.
Chief Smith presented certificates to Corporal Kevin Bissett and Police Officer Shane Perrault for earning the intermediate law enforcement certificate and to Master Officer Salvatore Fendero and Police Officer Shane Perrault for earning the advanced law enforcement certificate. Chief Smith said those certifications require a combination of formal education, specialized training, and verified experience and described both certificates as “not easily obtained.” He said 61% of the police department holds the intermediate certificate and 34% hold the advanced certificate.
Chief Smith also recognized Master Officer Salvatore Fendero and Master Officer Brian Willis Croft for completing a 400-hour Criminal Investigation Certificate Program at the North Carolina Justice Academy, and he recognized Master Officer Willis Croft for completing the North Carolina Justice Academy’s 400-hour Community Policing Certificate Program. Chief Smith said the investigations and community-policing programs are intended to strengthen investigative techniques and community-oriented policing skills.
The mayor and board members offered congratulations; family members and other officers attended to support the honorees. No formal board action was required for the employee recognitions.
