Board leadership on July 14 reviewed a proposed timeline and process for the 2025–26 superintendent search and discussed whether to contract with the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB), issue a district request for proposals, or pursue another approach.
Board members said the search is the board’s most significant hiring decision and stressed care in vendor selection and candidate screening. The timeline discussed includes stakeholder input, creation of a district profile and candidate profile, an open posting window through late January, first‑round interviews in March and a second‑round in‑district finalist process with board selection by late March or April.
Board leaders also reviewed an option to engage WASB (which offers a standard search package) or to issue an RFP to solicit multiple vendors. Several trustees expressed concern about re‑engaging the firm that led the prior search and asked staff to ask follow‑up questions about what contractual remedies or services the prior firm would provide if the prior outside hire left. The board requested staff to gather comparatives on vendor services, costs and any buy‑forward remedies and to report back so trustees can decide whether to select WASB or open an RFP.
Trustees emphasized the need for a transparent, competitive process, and for community and staff input into the candidate profile and interview protocols. The board expects to return to the selection question and to finalize vendor decisions in September–October so the search posting and recruitment can proceed on the proposed schedule.
