Village says suspect in Riverwoods home invasion was caught; shots fired, perpetrator hospitalized

The Village of Riverwoods told trustees that a suspect in a recent home invasion had been apprehended, was hospitalized after shots were fired and would face charges once released.
Mayor Ford told the board that the police commander was not present because the department was "guarding" the hospitalized suspect. "There was a home invasion in Riverwoods, and, there were shots fired, and, the, perpetrator is in the hospital," she said. "Once he gets out, he will be charged. So there will be a press release." She added that the village "got the guy" and that no officers were injured; the chief is on light duty and the commander was overseeing the hospital watch.
Mayor Ford said the events had temporarily stretched police staffing because of the need for round-the-clock guarding and that the commander would provide a fuller police report when available. The mayor told trustees residents are safe and said the chief will respond to email inquiries from residents seeking more information.
