Courtney (city staff) reported that U.S. Senator Rand Paul visited the American Legion Post 157 and that Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs (KDVA) had assigned an ambassador to women veterans in Bullitt County. Courtney said a Veterans Coalition meeting drew attendees from several counties, and praised local banner displays and small-business ribbon cuttings on Buckman and downtown that she said are helping draw visitors.
On workforce issues, staff described an initial collaboration with Kentucky InterWorks and a third-party contractor, Eckerd, to address transportation and training barriers that hinder residents from accessing jobs and apprenticeships in Jefferson County. The city is exploring adding routes or partnering with third-party shuttles to bring workers to employers and training centers, and staff said early discovery meetings would identify “hot spots” for routes.
Why this matters: Staff framed these efforts as part of a broader economic and workforce strategy to attract retail and industrial employers, address housing inventory shortages and connect residents to employer-paid training. Officials said they plan future events and programming to increase employer engagement and support for first-time jobseekers and non–four-year-college career paths.
No formal council action was taken; staff said they will continue interagency work and bring details to the council as projects are developed.
