Councilors said the daytime schedule was adopted earlier in December on a trial basis and the July action formalizes the change for the trial period; several members expressed support for the daytime option as another way for some residents—especially those who avoid winter evening travel—to attend. Councilor Turner and others raised concerns about the broader duties of council members that occur outside the meeting schedule—ribbon cuttings, ceremonial events and other engagements—and worried that a daytime meeting requirement could discourage potential future candidates who work full time.
Town staff and the mayor noted the ordinance language allows the council to change meeting times as needed, with required public notice, and encouraged flexibility if future candidate availability or council needs warrant a change.
Council adopted the ordinance by voice vote and directed staff to maintain flexibility and publish any meeting time changes through standard public notice channels.
