The Nashville Town Council awarded a $62,250 contract July 16 to Boles Restoration Service of Sandy Ridge to wash and repaint the town’s East Water Tower, with an additional $6,200 authorized to paint the town logo on two faces. The vote carried with one negative recorded.
Public Works and town staff said inspections recommended repainting the East Tower and that the tank’s existing coating requires removal to bare metal and an alkaline‑aluminum paint system. Staff presented four bids; Boles’ low bid was $62,250. “The tank itself is gonna be rolled. Probably the only thing they'll spray paint are the legs,” staff said during the discussion.
Council members expressed concern about paint mist or overspray and property impacts. One councilor said, “If the paint gets on anybody's property or car house or whatever, they're not gonna look for those. They're gonna look for the town of Nashville.” Staff responded that contractors are required to carry insurance and that the paint used typically dries before reaching the ground, but several members pressed for clarity on coverage and protections for nearby properties.
Staff also noted that Boles quoted $6,200 to add the town logo on the north and south faces; the council approved that extra amount. The contract award includes standard procurement and insurance requirements; staff said they require the contractor to carry specified insurance levels before work begins.
The council instructed staff to confirm insurance documentation and monitoring measures before work commences and to coordinate with adjacent property owners about timing.
