Council renews memorandum of understanding with Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley for adult education classes

The Navasota City Council on July 14 approved a renewal of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley to allow the agency to continue offering free adult education classes — GED and English as a second language — at the Navasota Center. Staff said the MOU clarifies mutual expectations: Workforce Solutions uses the city facility at no charge in exchange for providing classes. The city attorney recommended two edits to the draft: add the phrase “except as otherwise provided by applicable law” to the confidentiality provision and correct an internal date reference; staff said those edits had been forwarded to the workforce contact and would be included. Council approved the MOU with the attorney’s recommended changes; the item was presented as a city‑sponsored exchange of services, not as an outside fee waiver requiring separate treatment under the city’s facility fee schedule. The council’s action authorizes the city manager to finalize the agreement in the approved form.
