Special-education parents urge District 303 board for transparency and services

Jessica Metz of St. Charles addressed the District 303 Board of Education during the public comment period on July 14, saying she spoke for a community of special-education parents who sent a letter to the board and administration in March that they say received no acknowledgement. "This letter was sent in March and not really addressed," Metz told the board.
Metz described several ongoing concerns: she said families are seeking transparency, integrity and good-faith responses from leadership and that some parents perceive a pattern of coercion or bullying by administrators. She said her son lost access to therapy for six months after a schedule change and that the group is concerned about resource allocation, noting that the district is providing laptops to students but that families continue to seek adequate support services.
Metz asked the board to prioritize clearer communication and better support for special-education students. The board did not respond during the meeting; the public-comment rules read aloud at the start of the period stated the board does not respond to comments during the same meeting but will listen and consider the remarks.
Metz concluded by saying the remarks represented not only her own concerns but those of a larger group of special-education parents.
