The Navasota City Council on July 14 approved a $30,061 contract with Terra Bella Construction to replace four fire hydrants at locations the city identified as out of service or in need of replacement. Public Works Director Jennifer Reyna told the council the hydrants to be replaced are located on Highway 6 South Loop near Walmart, Kevin Court, at the intersection of Senior Circle (42 Place) and at the intersection of Grimes and Turner. Reyna said the city identified roughly 60 hydrants in need of repair in 2021 and has since repaired or replaced more than half through a combination of contractor work and in‑house rebuilds. She said the city has about $60,000 remaining in the annual hydrant maintenance budget after recent work. Council approved the contract with the normal legal review language; staff indicated they would pursue insurance reimbursement for hydrants destroyed by vehicle strikes where appropriate and would continue pursuing in‑house rebuilds for hydrants that can be repaired without replacement.
