The North Bend City Council on July 15 authorized a professional‑services agreement with Avadex for $19,681 to upgrade audio‑visual equipment in the adjournment room.
Phil Davenport, speaking for staff, described the purchase as an effort to improve intelligibility for in‑person and remote attendees, add tabletop microphones, a raised camera system and a room audio‑visual wall system. "This project will be funded out of the 502 equipment reserves fund," Davenport said during the presentation.
Davenport said the vendor will remove the existing equipment and repurpose it on a mobile cart for use in another recently opened conference room. Davenport emphasized remote participants will have clearer audio and video after the upgrade and, in a lighter moment, offered a saleslike pitch: "But wait. That's not all... If you vote yes today, we will give you 2 for the price of 1." Council members said they supported the upgrade because it improves public access and remote participation; the motion to approve the contract passed unanimously.
Councilmembers and staff noted recorded subcommittee meetings could be posted to the city's YouTube channel after the upgrade. The council recorded no additional conditions on the purchase; staff will execute the agreement and schedule installation under standard procurement practices.
