Public Safety Building construction progressing; foundations poured, steel expected soon

Project managers at the Port Washington Public Safety Building reported steady progress to the Police and Fire Commission on July 14: the squad garage is rising, foundations for shared areas are poured and foundations for the fire department were scheduled the week of the meeting, with steel erection planned by the end of the month, Fire Chief DeBoer said.
Chief DeBoer said crews addressed an early grading issue on the site driveway along Grand Avenue; the contractor’s civil team corrected the slope and the area was paved over a weekend. He said there had been no lost work days for weather or other causes and the contractor has been responsive to owner requests.
DeBoer reiterated the project team’s expectation that summer next year is a realistic timeline for completion, while noting the contractor plans some concrete work for apparatus pads and related items after frost is out of the ground. He cautioned that construction schedules can shift but said the project was proceeding at a faster-than-expected pace at that point.
Commissioners did not take any formal action on the project during the meeting; staff continue to finalize furniture selections and owner-related components.
