The Desert Sands Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously on July 15 to authorize the levy of special taxes within five community facilities districts for fiscal year 2025–26. The motion to approve the resolution was moved by Trustee Porras and seconded by Trustee Pierce; the final roll call vote recorded five ayes and no abstentions.
The action applied to community facilities districts (CFDs) numbered 2008‑1, 2013‑1, 2018‑1, 2021‑1 and 2022‑1. The board stated the measure as “Resolution of the board of education of the Desert Sands Unified School District acting as the legislative body of community facilities districts number 20 20 2,008‑1, 20 13‑1, 20 18‑1, 20 21‑1, and 20 22‑1 … authorizing the levy of special taxes and taking related actions for fiscal year 20 24 to 20 25,” as printed on the agenda.
Trustee Porras made the motion to approve the resolution; Trustee Pierce seconded it. The board initially recorded a procedural uncertainty about Trustee Alvarez’s response during the roll call (an apparent connection/unmute issue), then confirmed Alvarez’s vote as yes and updated the tally to 5–0.
The board took this vote while temporarily acting as the legislative body for the listed CFDs; after the vote the board reverted to acting as the Desert Sands Unified School District Board of Education for the remainder of the meeting.
No public discussion or amendments to the resolution were recorded during the roll call on the floor. The board did not present additional fiscal detail in open session about how proceeds will be allocated beyond the language on the agenda.
Less-critical consent items and grouped motions that followed on the agenda were handled separately and recorded as carried in subsequent votes.
