Board renews participation in special education cooperative despite one district’s withdrawal

The McCutcheon School Corporation Board on Tuesday approved the district’s annual joint services agreement to continue participation in the regional special education cooperative that provides shared services for special education students.
Doctor Wiedenhofer presented the agreement and said the cooperative now includes 13 districts after East Noble withdrew for the year, a change that modestly increases costs for the remaining members. Wiedenhofer said the cooperative model is difficult for a single district to replace because it pools staffing and specialized services that individual districts may find hard to replicate.
Board members asked about East Noble’s decision; staff said East Noble believes it can staff and comply with IEPs independently and expects lower costs in the short term, but Wiedenhofer noted East Noble had previously left and later rejoined the cooperative. The board approved the joint services agreement 7‑0.
