Resident urges city to fix nonworking restrooms at Riverwalk community center

Natalie Coleman, a Joliet resident and member of the city’s Fire and Police Board, addressed the council during public comment on July 14 and said the Riverwalk community center has been operating without adequate restrooms for more than a month.
"It's a community center… the bathroom situation has really struck a chord with me because I find it pretty indecent and inhumane," Coleman said. She described one working toilet without a seat, a lack of cleaning, and seniors in wheelchairs who use the center as part of programs and for whom restroom access is a basic need.
Coleman said she had reported the condition to the hosting group and asked city staff to investigate; a city staffer in the meeting said they would look into it and provide an update before the next meeting. Coleman said she will be at the center over the next three weeks and wants the issue resolved for program participants and staff.
The comment was received as a request for staff follow-up; no formal council action was taken during the pre-council remarks.
