Pierce County Council confirms two appointments to Accessible Communities Advisory Committee

Pierce County Council members on Tuesday approved the consent agenda that included appointing Ashley Jones and Kimberly Gersman to the Accessible Communities Advisory Committee.

The appointments were adopted as part of the council’s consent agenda during the July 15 meeting. The motion to approve the consent agenda was offered by Vice Chair Herrera and was adopted by roll call, 6-0.

The appointments were announced during the consent-agenda item and each new appointee gave brief introductions. “Hello. My name is Ashley Jones. I am a long time resident of Pierce County, born and raised here, and I am honored to serve on this council. … I have just graduated with my master's in community planning,” Ashley Jones said after being introduced. Kimberly Gersman said she lives in Puyallup and is “really interested in finding out more about making our communities accessible.”

No members of the public spoke on the consent agenda during the public-comment period for that item. With the roll call recorded as six ayes and zero nays, the consent agenda — including the two appointment resolutions and two sets of minutes — was adopted and the council thanked the new volunteers.

The Accessible Communities Advisory Committee is listed on the council agenda as the committee to which both appointees were assigned; the committee’s role was not discussed in detail at the July 15 meeting. The council did not provide additional materials or a vote separate from the consent agenda for the individual appointments.

Procedural details: Vice Chair Herrera made the motion to approve the consent agenda; a second was recorded. The clerk called the roll, and council members voted aye: Morell, Herrera, Ayala, Yambe, Hitchens, and one other member recorded as present. The council chair thanked the appointees for their willingness to serve.
