EMA reports summer festival work and plans school safety exercises; radio and generator installs nearing completion

The Emergency Management Agency (EMA) told the Public Safety Committee that its recent event support work for the Moon Pie Festival in Bell Buckle produced no major incidents and that the agency is coordinating a new school safety working group and multiagency exercise planned for March (exact year provided by staff as the next scheduled exercise).
EMA staff said attendance at the festival appeared lower because of heat and rain but that public safety resources performed as expected. The agency also reported it had met with school officials about start-of-school safety preparations and intends to form a working group with public safety and school personnel to plan drills and exercises; staff said March 6 is the tentative date for the next planned exercise.
Committee members asked EMA about the status of radio installs and backup generators deployed as part of prior communications upgrades. EMA and related staff said most radio installations are complete, the last installation work included a fire truck, and generator equipment was being placed at Hawthorne Hill with some installation activity occurring that day. EMA said cleanup tasks remain and that staff will meet again for an update the following week.
The committee recorded no formal votes specific to EMA work at this meeting; EMA staff said they will continue coordinating with schools and public-safety partners and will provide installation updates at upcoming meetings.
