The Common Council on Tuesday approved resolution 25‑R3297 awarding a contract to replace a failed air handling unit at the city's fleet maintenance shop.
City staff advised the council that one of two air handlers serving the fleet shop had failed; the units provide fresh‑air exchange required because vehicle repair and welding in the shop can contaminate work‑area air. The replacement was included in the 2025 capital budget with an approved amount of $55,000.
Bids were solicited with a mandatory site visit and sealed bids opened July 1; four bids were received in a range from about $53,257 to $54,888. Two bids were disqualified for not providing a bid bond and not attending the mandatory site visit. The lowest qualifying bid came from Mechanical Incorporated doing business as Helm Services, at $53,584.
Fleet staff recommended awarding the contract to Helm Services; the council approved the award by roll call. Alderman Rosick moved the motion to accept the bid. Roll call votes were recorded and the motion passed.
Ending: Staff said the work will proceed under the awarded contract and that the replacement unit will restore required fresh‑air exchange in the fleet shop.
