Sheriff reports recent fatalities, multi-jurisdiction search-warrant assistance and telecommunicator staffing changes

Lee County’s sheriff updated the Public Safety Committee on recent incidents and staffing changes, including a double fatality from an electrocution, mutual-aid assistance on a violent incident in a neighboring county, and staffing turnover in telecommunicators.
The sheriff told the committee that deputies responded to an overhead electrocution in Amboy "what turned out to be a double fatal" and mentioned another incident in the area of 251 on Chicago Road. He also said Lee County assisted Whiteside County by executing three search warrants related to an investigation in which "3 masked and armed individuals went to a garage party, assaulted some of the people and then shot fired some shots indiscriminately." The sheriff said Lee County assisted in executing the search warrants prior to July 4 as part of that investigation.
On staffing, the sheriff said the department had two current employees as of the prior night and is processing lateral candidates from Dixon Police Department: "We're, going through the background Dixon Police Department to be hired as police officers doing lateral." He reported a probationary telecommunicator was released "because it just wasn't working out" and the county will hire another telecommunicator to replace that position. He also said the county is continuing work to replace Kevin Lally in an unspecified role.
Committee members thanked the sheriff and had no additional action on the report.
