Committee ratifies city application for up to $5 million in USDOT 'Safe Streets and Roads for All' funds to implement Vision Zero measures

The Transportation Committee unanimously recorded a favorable vote to ratify the City of Atlanta's application to the U.S. Department of Transportation for fiscal year 2025 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) implementation funding, seeking up to $5,000,000 to advance the city's Vision Zero action plan.

"This application is really focused on, implementing school zones at all Atlanta public schools, focused on some signage and as well as evaluation of some of the implementation that we're doing there," ATLDOT staff said during committee discussion.

Committee members asked whether previously awarded federal grants for projects such as Central Avenue and Shirley Franklin Boulevard or FRA railroad crossing funds were at risk given federal funding decisions; ATLDOT and department representatives replied they were not aware of indications that prior awards were in danger and that the SS4A program was continuing at the federal level.
