The Cabarrus County Board of Education on Monday approved the district's Beginning Teacher Support Plan, which formalizes mentor assignments, lead-mentor roles, classroom-management cohorts and a district-run coaching corps made up largely of retired veteran teachers.
The plan, led by beginning-teacher coordinator Angie McClain, lays out a three-tiered support model: a core level for all first-year teachers (orientation, mentor, lead mentor and curriculum-aligned professional development), school-level intensified supports for teachers needing extra help, and a district-level intensive coaching track for teachers who require individualized coaching.
