The Madison County Planning and Zoning Commission voted 4-0 to recommend approval of a rezoning request from A-1 to A-R on a 7.53-acre parcel at 270 Stella Henley Road to permit an accessory dwelling for a family member. The applicant, Brandon Browning, said the rezoning is needed so he can move his 71-year-old mother, who has dementia, to a smaller dwelling on the property and provide family care.
Browning, who described himself as a landowner and longtime resident, said the plan is not for commercial development and that the accessory unit is intended to accommodate his mother and stepfather. One resident, William Whitley, spoke in support of the request. No speakers opposed the application.
After a short public hearing, the commission made a motion to recommend approval and voted 4-0. The commission noted that its action is a recommendation; the final decision will be made by the Board of Commissioners and applicants were advised to appear there.
