Stonecrest revises highway monument designs after GDOT comments; council to discuss removing DeKalb County line

The TIPS Committee received an update on wayfinding monuments on July 9, including five proposed monuments in GDOT right-of-way and six monuments on city park or city right-of-way locations that do not require GDOT permits.
Staff said they submitted a GDOT application June 6 and received GDOT comments on June 23; a consultant addressed those comments on June 27 and staff will upload revised drawings after further discussion. "They wanted to remove the 'welcome' wording and remove 'DeKalb County' at the bottom," staff said, describing comments from GDOT. The city plans to call GDOT to explain why the original design included "Welcome to Stonecrest" and the county attribution and to seek approval for the city's preferred design.
City monuments on park property or city right-of-way (Panola Shoals, Salem Park, Brownsville Park, Harrington Park, Everett Park and a city monument at the Broad/Flatbridge entrance) were submitted to purchasing on May 19 for bidding. Staff said purchasing is processing those bid documents.
Ending: Staff will contact GDOT to discuss the requested design changes and will upload revised drawings to the GDOT portal; purchasing will continue to advertise the park/right-of-way monument work once internal review is complete.
