County moves to broaden emergency-warning planning; vision-team to solicit public feedback at fairs

Commissioners and staff discussed emergency management's role in the county’s long-range vision plan and the need to review early-warning systems and siren coverage. Tony said he had spoken with Barb (emergency management) about whether warnings were appropriate during recent events in Texas and recommended the emergency manager include a concise plan section in the county vision document describing responsibilities and needs for early warning, siren coverage and communications. Commissioners said they expect the emergency management agency to return to the steering committee with recommendations and noted an EMA meeting was scheduled. Tony and others also said the Adams County Vision steering committee will solicit public input at the 4‑H fair and Swiss Days; staff will provide QR-code boards and online surveys to gather community priorities for a 10–15 year vision. No action items or appropriations were approved at the meeting; staff said they will incorporate emergency-management recommendations into the vision plan and report back.
