Police leadership told council veterinarians recommended retirement after Ruck developed eyesight issues. Chief (presenting) said the department has historically transferred retired K‑9s to their handlers and requested council approval to continue that practice. "We would just ask that the council transfer the possession to Officer Turpin," the chief said.
Councilors thanked Ruck for service and discussed K‑9 program continuity. The chief noted training for a new K‑9 is extensive and expensive and that the department will evaluate officers willing to undergo training and the timing of available courses. The resolution was approved without amendment; the transfer will place permanent care responsibility with Officer Turpin.
