Housing authority highlights Section 8 high performer score, staffing hires and resident programs

The Affordable Housing Authority’s executive director told commissioners the authority’s Section 8 program received a HUD CMAT score of 97 and remains designated a high performer. The executive director named Carrie Farias and Maria Fonso as leaders of the Section 8 department and credited staff for the result.

The executive director reported two recent hires: a truck driver to replace a retiree and a CCTV technician for camera monitoring. He described resident services activities starting this week, including cookouts at elderly sites and a series of movie nights across six sites; the first movie night was scheduled at Pleasant View at about 8:30 p.m. that evening. The director also said staff are concluding an investigation into concerns raised by a resident at “Bishop E” (as stated in the transcript) and that a resident meeting will be scheduled next week to address those concerns.

Commissioners discussed the schedule for the next board meeting and agreed, for the record, to move the meeting from Aug. 11 to Aug. 18 at 4:30 p.m.; the executive director will be absent for the Aug. 11 date and offered three options. The rescheduled date was confirmed during discussion on the record.

Commissioner Jay Burns was welcomed back after an earlier absence, and the board observed a moment of silence for victims of the Oliver Street fire referenced by a commissioner. The executive director and a commissioner both congratulated staff for the HUD score and asked commissioners to recognize the work of the Section 8 team.

No formal policy changes or funding allocations were proposed or adopted during this portion of the meeting. The executive director invited board members to the upcoming resident meeting and noted he would return to work in mid‑August and be available to staff after that date.
