Stride Community Health presented a midyear update on the senior dental program that the board funds through the county's aid-to-agencies process.
Stride said the senior-dental project serves older adult patients at multiple clinics and that approximately 71 Arapahoe County seniors had received services at the Inglewood site through the April reporting period. Staff reported roughly $113,800 in program-related services billed as of the end of April and 375 related visit events at the senior-dental site since January. Stride described case examples of patients requiring multi-visit treatment plans, full dentures, and care coordination when patients presented with comorbid conditions (for example, cancer-related dry mouth and complex dental needs).
Stride noted workforce shortages in dental hygienists and dentists, an ongoing challenge for community-health centers. The organization said it is expanding access with a new clinic on East Colfax (Geneva corridor) planned to open in 2026 with dental, medical, behavioral health and pharmacy services and improved parking. Stride also operates a mobile health unit for outreach and plans to open additional dental capacity in Del Mar (Arapahoe County) and at other sites.
Commissioners asked about outreach and geographic distribution of patients; Stride said it would provide ZIP-code level breakdowns of clinic users. Staff emphasized the program's role in preventing unnecessary emergency-room visits by offering dental care options for urgent dental needs.
Next steps: Stride will return with updated case counts and ZIP-code disaggregation, continue recruiting dental staff, and proceed with site development for the East Colfax clinic.
