The Allegany County Committee of the Whole approved a request June 25 to fill a recreation-leader vacancy at Rushford Beach after Administrator Carissa Knapp told the committee the opening was unexpected and a backup from last year is covering the duties.

Administrator Carissa Knapp said the vacancy caused no disruption in services and that the county needs to hire someone permanently for the summer. “We had unexpected vacancy. There's no disruption in services. We have somebody that is already the backup recreation leader from last year who is filling this role at the moment, but we do need to hire someone permanently in that slot for the summer,” Knapp said.

Legislator Havey moved to approve the request; Legislator Burdick seconded. The motion was carried by voice vote. The meeting record did not include a roll-call tally.

The committee took the action during a regular reconvened session after a training and survey session that was held offline to limit responses to board members. The agenda was later taken out of order to accommodate guests scheduled later in the morning.
