Columbia County staff reported that the new 9-1-1 call center project is approximately 50% complete and remains on schedule for a mid-September finish, which would allow a move and a brief operational transition ahead of an anticipated October start of service.
Staff said general contractors have completed rough HVAC, plumbing and electrical work and that a recent inspection with the town code officer raised no issues. The county requested and the committee approved a change order of $6,200 to add electrical outlets, data drops and monitor locations identified in walkthroughs with 9-1-1 staff.
Committee members also authorized the county to enter into agreements for the building access and alarm systems. County staff discussed procurement of a card access system from the vendor used by the county and a fire alarm contract with a vendor that currently services the county's fire training center; during the meeting staff referenced figures in discussion (door access and fire alarm line items were discussed around $63,000 each during the presentation). Staff said taking those systems out of the original construction contract and placing them with specialized vendors will save approximately $35,000 compared with the original single-contractor scope.
Project timeline and bidding: staff said bids for related projects (11 Warren, 610 building) are being coordinated; bid openings and pre-bid meetings were discussed for the Lehi/11 Warren project with dates provided for contractors. Staff said 30 contractors had picked up bid documents for the 9-1-1 center and that construction start is scheduled for September, noting some firms prefer not to begin during the school construction season.
Discussion and next steps: staff will continue to manage close coordination with contractors and vendors; the committee approved the change order and authorized vendor agreements to keep the project on schedule.
