The Public Safety Committee on June 17 approved a local law authorizing licensed 12- and 13-year-old hunters to hunt deer with a firearm or crossbow during hunting season when accompanied and supervised by an adult licensed hunter.
Staff said the change extends a temporary program that previously required renewal every two years. The revised local law adds language to make the program automatic in subsequent calendar years while the temporary program remains in effect, which staff said would remove the need for biennial reauthorization unless the program is explicitly ended.
The motion to extend the local law was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote. No members of the public raised questions during the meeting record.
