The Columbia County Finance Committee unanimously approved a 2025 budget amendment to cover costs for a public health engineer and authorized creation of one full-time public health engineer position, the committee recorded during its July 6 meeting.
The action, taken by voice vote after a motion and a second, also included renewal of a contract with Coteau Rey Media to repurchase and upgrade materials to meet ADA requirements for county health communications. Committee members said the amendment will allow the Health Department to hire the engineer and pay associated costs.
Committee proceedings showed the motions were carried without recorded roll-call tallies. The resolutions were presented in sequence as part of the committee's consent items; officials did not engage in extended debate on the measures. The resolution texts listed effective dates for some items; the committee chair moved the measures and members voted “aye.”
The measures follow routine administrative practice to align staffing and contracts with operational needs in the Health Department. The committee did not specify the hired position’s start date, the total dollar amount being corrected in a prior resolution, or the contract dollar value for the Coteau Rey Media renewal in the meeting record.
County staff will proceed with hiring and contract execution under the committee’s authorization. The committee moved on to other agenda items after the approvals.
