The Board of Education approved a contract Wednesday to relocate a double modular classroom (Unit R035) from Leonardtown Elementary School to Town Creek Elementary School using a Baltimore County cooperative purchasing agreement.
District staff said the relocatable double unit at Leonardtown (manufactured in 02/2010) is in good condition and will replace older single‑unit modulars at Town Creek, some of which the district believes date from the 1950s. The recommended contractor is Modular Genius Inc., using Baltimore County contract GDA30322002; the board approved $203,361 for relocation and a $24,000 contingency.
Staff explained that procuring a new modular would cost roughly three times the relocation amount and could require additional sprinkler and site work at small schools. The district said it will not demolish existing Town Creek units until the relocated unit is in place; staff estimated the relocation will be completed in September and that demolition of two deteriorated Town Creek units will follow.
Board members asked about schedule and demolition; staff said they are coordinating permits and principal communications so classrooms will be available by the time school is in session or soon thereafter. The motion to award the contract carried by voice vote.
