Champlain moves forward with Bob Van Community Park: groundbreaking, courts and July dedication

Town officials reported excavation and early construction work at Bob Van Park and formally adopted a resolution naming the site the Bob Van Community Park on June 10.
Supervisor Thomas Tremblay told the board that excavation by the highway department had begun for a fitness court, double pickleball courts and a parking lot. He said highway work on the parking and excavation was expected to be completed in three to four weeks, with concrete pours and equipment installation to follow “weather permitting.” A formal dedication and sign unveiling was scheduled for July 27 at 11 a.m., the supervisor said; earlier in the meeting he corrected an initial announcement that had given an incorrect date.
The board adopted Resolution No. 26, formally naming the park the Bob Van Community Park and directed that a copy of the resolution be provided to the Van family. Council members and volunteers were acknowledged for fundraising and earlier land donations; the board’s resolution recorded that a 10.81-acre parcel donated in 2007 plus two subsequent purchases provide about 14.1 acres for development.
The fitness-court installation (a separate procurement) and related site work remain on the town’s project schedule; a different agenda item noted a vendor quote for the fitness court but the board tabled that procurement pending additional quotes and scheduling. The town asked residents to exercise caution around the park while crews are on site.
