Rouses Point trustees approve NCCS band coin-drop fundraiser for June 21

Rouses Point trustees voted unanimously Monday to allow the North Clinton Central School (NCCS) band parent group to hold a coin-drop fundraiser at the Rouses Point Civic Center on Lake Street from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 21.

The request, filed in correspondence to the village administrator, said adult volunteers will run the coin drop to raise money for a planned educational trip for the NCCS high school band in 2026 to Boston. The correspondence described the parent group as “a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the music education” of NCCS students and said proceeds would cover instruments, uniforms, travel and supplemental learning opportunities. The correspondence author offered to answer trustees’ questions at the meeting.

Village staff noted the group will coordinate with the fire department if needed and follow village guidelines to minimize disturbance. At the meeting a trustee moved to grant permission, another trustee seconded, and the board approved the request by roll call: Trustee Pelkey — aye; Trustee Menard — aye; Trustee Southwick — aye; Trustee Arnold — aye; Mayor — aye.

Trustees and staff discussed crowd and traffic safety because the coin drop falls on the same weekend as a local drive sale; staff said parents would be stationed in the road while children would be kept to the parking lot. The board did not impose additional conditions beyond the standard coordination and safety assurances described in the correspondence.

The village administrator and the correspondence author were listed as points of contact; trustees wished the students well in their fundraising.
