Lake Bluff reports first local mosquito positive for West Nile virus; officials advise precautions

Village Administrator Drew told the board on July 14 that a mosquito sample collected July 8 tested positive for West Nile virus, the first Lake Bluff detection reported this season. The announcement followed earlier county reports of West Nile in nearby Highland Park. Drew said the village is using its usual public guidance: drain standing water, apply insect repellent, limit outdoor activity at dawn and dusk and wear long sleeves and pants. Residents can report standing water to the village at clarkportal.com/hotline, and the full advisory is posted on the village website. Drew told trustees that the sample did not require a higher‑level pesticide response and that the village would continue routine surveillance. Officials encouraged residents to follow the four D’s of mosquito defense and to use the village hotline to report concerns.
