Finance committee approves consent items including sprinkler inspections, special-education furniture and training

The East Stroudsburg Area School District finance committee on July 14 approved a package of consent items (items a–k) that included maintenance contracts, classroom purchases, training agreements and small change orders.
The items approved included: a five-year internal sprinkler-inspection proposal from Keystone Fire and Security for Smithfield Elementary and High School South; disposition and trade-in of 18 Cardiac Science G3 automated external defibrillator (AED) units with an estimated trade value of $1,800 and disposal of 11 units manufactured prior to February 2011 that were no longer eligible for trade; a $13,600 restorative-practices train-the-trainer agreement funded through a PCCD grant; Lakeshore Learning furniture purchases for two special-education classrooms totaling $44,005.19 paid from ACCESS funds; annual Renaissance (Nearpod) products and services for interactive instructional practices; routine bread and dairy bid awards; two change orders for north and south high school scoreboards to address poor soils/footing work (roughly $13,000 for north and $12,000 for south); and several invoices and contractor applications for payment.
District staff said the Lakeshore furniture is earmarked to outfit two new autistic-support programs at Smithfield and Middle Smithfield elementary schools so those students can remain in district schools rather than go to regional IU programs. The restorative-practices item will send up to 10 staff to train-the-trainer sessions so the district can build internal training capacity; the contract cost is already allocated within a two-year PCCD grant, staff said.
On Nearpod/Renaissance, staff reported they reviewed web-based instructional platforms and consolidated licenses, cutting the district’s previous costs roughly in half while keeping a platform for interactive lessons and student engagement across K–12.
The scoreboard change orders were described as related to poor soils requiring caissons/footings; the committee asked facilities staff for more detailed change-order documentation before full acceptance in final accounting.
The committee moved and approved items a–k by unanimous voice vote from members present and scheduled the full board meeting for the following week. No members of the public asked to speak during the finance committee meeting.
Next steps: staff will finalize vendor contracts, execute the restorative-practices contractor agreement under the PCCD grant, and process the approved invoices and payment applications.
