Local mother urges more fentanyl-awareness outreach and billboards; committee acknowledged comment

Marcy Wilson, a Houston County resident, told the advisory committee she lost her daughter to fentanyl and urged the county to support public-awareness efforts, including billboards and community outreach. "I lost my daughter to fentanyl in weekly drinks. I've become involved with several groups that are across The United. I've had my daughter's face on billboards all across The United States and involved in different poster projects and spreading awareness. We've got several billboards here in the county," Wilson said. She told committee members she believes local billboards and visible campaigns can help deter drug use among young people. Committee members thanked Wilson for her work and encouraged her to use the standardized application if she seeks county support for awareness projects. Committee member 1 said they will provide an application and asked Wilson to submit it to the mayor's office so the committee can formally consider any funding request. Wilson's comments were part of the meeting's public-comment period and did not prompt a funding decision at the meeting. The committee advised that any request for settlement dollars must fit Exhibit E eligibility and be documented with a budget and receipts if approved after committee recommendation and County Commission action.
