Board approves Myron Construction as general contractor for new elementary after low bid of about $30 million

Presenters from the district’s design team said Myron submitted the low bid for the elementary building at $30,001,063 and that Myron’s package includes a 5% construction contingency allowance (about $1,422,000) to address unforeseen site conditions such as poor soils or rock encountered during excavation.
Steve, a representative of the design team, told the board the design and bid process began after the successful referendum and that the district had solicited multiple contractors. He said the project was bid during a period when regional construction workloads had slowed, which produced competitive bids. The design team reported Myron’s bid was significantly under the district’s earlier budgeting figures and said the competitiveness of bids allowed more scope for renovation funding at other district buildings.
Project timing and scope presenters said Myron indicated a proposed start date of Aug. 1, 2025, and a target substantial completion date of Dec. 1, 2026, for the elementary building. The design team said subsurface work was informed by prior soil borings (the team described a grid of borings, about a dozen to 14 in number) and that the $1.422 million contingency is intended for true unforeseen conditions. The design team also said middle-school and high-school renovations will follow a separate design and bidding process and that mechanical work at the middle school will likely require work across two summers.
The board and presenters detailed bidding controls: alternates were specified to allow district preference among manufacturers (generators, equipment brands) and the design team reported a high degree of competitiveness among the final bidders.
Motion: "I move to approve Myron as general contractor based on bids received on 07/02/2025 for construction of the new elementary building." The motion was moved by Bobby Brown and carried as the board’s action to award the elementary work to Myron Construction.
What happens next: The design team said it expects to finalize a contract and begin design verification and shop drawings; administration said contracts and subsequent phases will come back to the board for approval or separate bidding.
