Administration said the contract was necessary to guarantee guard coverage at the start of the school year and noted the contract contains a 60-day opt-out clause that would allow the district to cancel the arrangement if follow-up negotiations yield a different solution.
Director (unnamed in the motion) moved to approve the crossing-guard contract; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. Board members said they continue to discuss a potential long-term plan to bring crossing-guard services in-house as a cost-saving measure, but approved the contract now to avoid a gap in summer hiring and training that could leave students without coverage at the start of school.
After the vote, administration said it will continue conversations with borough officials and township partners about service options and will report back to the board as negotiations continue.
