Douglas County commissioners discussed multiple information-technology staffing requests from the sheriff's office and the countywide IT team and reached a tentative consensus to add one sheriff IT position now while leaving further county IT increases for a later review.
The sheriff's office requested two network/IT positions; some commissioners supported funding one position now to address needs raised by the move into a new public-safety building and an expanded dispatch environment. County IT requested additional analyst positions to support new buildings and to meet rising demands for dashboards, data integrations and systems maintenance; commissioners acknowledged the operational need but said they wanted a broader plan describing countywide IT structure before adding several permanent positions.
Commissioners generally instructed staff to place one sheriff IT position in the proposed budget (the county-side IT request was marked for staff follow-up), and they flagged a second sheriff position and additional county IT analyst requests for consideration after staff presents a countywide IT plan detailing how roles and responsibilities will be divided across departments.
Several commissioners said they were sensitive to adding recurring personnel costs and asked staff to show how the request tied to capital and operational changes such as the new Public Safety building and upcoming initiatives.
