The Oklahoma City Council unanimously approved a series of resolutions declaring specific properties dilapidated, unsecured or abandoned and authorized code-enforcement follow-up steps. Code enforcement staff told the council they provided at least 10 days’ notice to owners before the hearing and that, if structures are not brought into compliance within 30 days, the city will file a notice of lien and may remove the structure. Resident Michael Washington spoke during the public hearing and asked about the city’s contact efforts; staff said notices were sent and that the next step if owners fail to act is filing a notice of lien. Councilors moved through the dilapidated-structure, unsecured-structure and abandoned-building resolutions in sequence; each resolution passed unanimously, and staff will proceed with the steps described in the code-enforcement process.
